3D Archery Near Dallas–Fort Worth: What to Expect at The Bow Yard

If you’re looking for 3D archery near Dallas–Fort Worth, The Bow Yard in Waxahachie gives you two walk-through courses, a 100-yard static range and 300 acres to shoot on, open every day of the week.

Here’s what to expect before you drive down.

Two 3D courses: Red and Blue

The Bow Yard has two courses of life-size 3D targets set across multi-terrain ground:

  • Red Course: 10 targets
  • Blue Course: 12 targets

Targets on both courses are set from 20 to 50 yards. That’s 22 targets in all. Shoot one course for a quick session or both for a full morning. Because the targets sit on varied terrain, you’ll get the angled and uneven shots that a flat practice range can’t give you.

A 100-yard static range

Before or after the courses, the static range lets you sight in and check your pins at marked distances out to 100 yards. Most bowhunters never shoot an animal at 100 yards, but practicing far out makes your 20- and 30-yard shots feel easy, and it shows form problems quickly.

Hours and price

  • Open: 9 am to 5 pm, seven days a week
  • Day pass: $40 per person

One day pass, all day. Veterans and first responders save 10%, and gift cards are coming soon.

Where it is

The Bow Yard is at 3607 Old Maypearl Road, Waxahachie, TX 75167, next to ETTS Gun Range in Ellis County, south of Dallas–Fort Worth. Enter through The Bow Yard main gate on Old Maypearl Road.

How to plan your day

  1. Start on the static range. Shoot a few groups at known distances to confirm your sight.
  2. Walk the Blue Course. Twelve targets is a good warm-up for judging distance on varied ground.
  3. Take a water break. Texas sun adds up, even in fall.
  4. Shoot the Red Course. Ten targets to finish, with your eye now calibrated.
  5. Finish back at the static range if a particular yardage gave you trouble.

What to bring

  • Your bow or crossbow, with field points (no broadheads on 3D targets). Crossbows are welcome.
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Water and sun protection
  • A friend or two

Read the range rules before your first visit.
